Most personalised children's books do one thing: they print your child's name into an otherwise fixed story. That is fine, and it is why the category has a reputation for being a bit thin.
Ours work differently, and because people ask the same handful of questions before ordering, this page answers them properly.
What “personalised” means here
When you order, you tell us about your child and we build their book around that. Specifically:
- Their name runs through the story, and it is on the front cover.
- Their appearance — skin tone and hair — is drawn into the illustrations. They are the player on the pitch, not a generic child with a name label.
- Their family appears in the story. You tell us who is watching from the stands and we draw them in.
- The shirt is the team's, worn by your child, across the whole book.
The result is a book a child opens and recognises themselves in immediately, without needing anyone to explain the joke.
The story
Every book follows the same journey: a young player at the very start of their football life, working through setbacks, growing up, and ending as the young adult who has to take the shot that decides a final.
That arc is the reason the books hold up across a wide age range. A small child is enjoying the pictures and hearing their own name. An older child is following a career that begins exactly where theirs is now and ends somewhere they daydream about. It is a football story, but the thing it is actually about is nerve — deciding to try anyway. That gives the book something to say on the fortieth reading, once the novelty of seeing their own face has worn off.

What you get
Every book is a printed hardcover, 21 x 28cm, and comes with a digital PDF copy of the same book. The PDF matters more than it sounds: it arrives well before the printed book does, so if you have left an occasion late you have something to show on the day.
There is also an option to add your own story — a page written from something you tell us about your child, worked into the book in the same style as the rest. It is the single most popular add-on we offer, and it is the part parents tend to mention afterwards.
What age is it for?
Roughly nought to twelve. That is a wider range than most personalised books claim, and it is deliberate — it comes from the story following a player from their youth all the way to young adulthood.
- Babies and toddlers: read to them. The personalisation does the work — they point at the pictures and say their own name.
- Five to eight: old enough to read some of it themselves and to understand what the ending means. This is the age that asks for it at bedtime repeatedly.
- Nine to twelve: the age most personalised books lose, and the one ours is built to keep. An older child who plays properly is reading about a young player at the same stage they are, going all the way. It reads as a journey rather than as a picture book with their name in it.
How long it takes
Each book is drawn and assembled after you order — nothing is sitting in a warehouse. The digital PDF comes through first, usually within about half a day, and the printed hardcover follows once it has been through the printer and the post.

Frequently asked questions
Is my child too old for a personalised book?
Probably not, if they are twelve or under and they play. The usual reason older kids grow out of personalised books is that the books are written for four-year-olds with a name swapped in. Ours follows a full journey from youth football to a final, which is why it still lands at ten and eleven.
Can I put two children in one book?
The story is built around one child as the player. If you have two football-mad children, two books works far better than trying to split one — the whole effect depends on the child being the only one on the pitch.
Can you match my child's actual appearance?
We match skin tone and hair from the options you select at checkout, and we draw the family members you tell us about. It is an illustrated likeness rather than a portrait from a photograph.
Do you make books for other teams?
Not yet beyond the four above, but we add them. If your team is not listed, tell us — the requests genuinely decide what we build next.
Is the shirt an official licensed product?
The books are original illustrated stories, not official club merchandise. Your child is drawn wearing the team's colours in the artwork.
What if something is wrong with the book?
Get in touch through the contact page. Because everything is made to order, we would much rather fix a book than have one sitting unread.
